Round 2 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean School Bus Program opened on April 24, 2023. This round is a competitive application process, unlike the first round. The application will reward high-quality proposals that compete within the program's rules and that demonstrate robust planning, relevant experience, high likelihood of project success, and cost-sharing.
Round 2 is fundamentally different from Round 1.
Where Round 1 was a lottery with relatively simple applications that awarded about $1B in rebates, Round 2 is a competitive process with a complex application that will distribute $400M in grants. There will be fewer awardees, and each award will be for more buses. We’ve highlighted these and a few other key differences in this accompanying chart and go into much more detail in our blog.
